Research environment

Current and priority areas

Early identification, disease monitoring, Ayurvedic supportive management, prevention of progression and integrative care models. A non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy study involved 30 participants.

A chronic degenerative retinal disorder studied through visual function, disease stability, symptom documentation, quality of life and long-term follow-up. A regimen was tested on 50 participants.

A single-centre observational study assessed Ayurvedic treatment in children and adolescents, involving 32 participants, with attention to visual hygiene and follow-up.

An open-label study focus includes disease stability, visual function, corneal curvature, refractive changes and patient-reported symptoms in patients aged 18 to 30 years.

Research focuses on retinal status, macular changes, visual function, disease monitoring and supportive care in patients aged 40 to 75 years.

Optic atrophy, optic neuritis and related conditions are documented through visual acuity, colour vision, visual fields, optic disc status and patient symptoms.

Dry eye disease, allergic conjunctivitis, computer vision syndrome and related disorders are studied because they are common, recurrent and influenced by lifestyle and environment.

Documentation includes central serous retinopathy, macular hole, age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and retinal vascular disease.

Research Initiatives

A national referral centre recognized as Centre of Excellence for Ayurveda Ophthalmology by Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India, with following initiatives:

  • Retinitis Pigmentosa Ayurvedic Regimen: A comprehensive protocol, tested on 50 participants
  • Non-proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy Study: A focused, single-center, open-labeled examination of selected Ayurvedic interventions involving 30 participants.
  • Progressive Myopia in Young Populace: An observational study at a single-center assessing the potency of Ayurvedic treatments in curbing vision deterioration among children and adolescents, encompassing 32 participants.

Completed Projects

  • Keratoconus Management Exploration: A rigorous, single-center, open-labeled study aiming to decipher the efficacy and safety of Ayurvedic treatments in addressing Keratoconus. This is tailored for 30 patients aged 18 to 30.
  • Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD) Intervention: A methodical, single-center open-labeled investigation assessing Ayurvedic therapeutic efficacy for AMD, targeting 30 patients aged 40 to 75.
  • A single centre, observational trial to assess the efficacy of Ayurvedic therapy in treating and preventing further deterioration of vision in Progressive Myopia among children and Adolescents – 32 subjects
